…Nathan and Leslie were best friends ever since kinder…they always stick together and never let each other cry.

Nathan was a naughty boy, but not to Leslie…he was always sweet to her, and never fails to make her laugh…

Unlike Nathan, Leslie was a sweet and pretty girl. And she always gives her smile to anyone she meets, and that made her very special to everyone she knows…

They grew up together…Leslie looks at Nathan as her brother but for him she’s an angel sent for him to love…

In their high school years things started to get a little mixed up…

When they set foot on the high school grounds they met Oliver, an arrogant lad who fell for the sweet Leslie and begun to court her.

Nathan: So what’s up with that Oliver?

He said in a cold voice…
Leslie shook her head and smiled…

Leslie: so my best friend’s getting jealous huh?...

She said trying to make her frowning friend smile

Nathan: No! Why would I? And besides I’m sure I’ll be your only love…err…
Best friend…

Leslie: (if he smiles at me I’ll dump Oliver…) …so you want to have some ice cream after class?

Nathan: okay… I have to go, bye!

He stood up without smiling back at her.
And as soon as he left, Oliver came and gave her a dozen of flower.
He smiled at her and offered his hand…

Oliver: Let a handsome prince escort the lovely princess.

Leslie: No thanks, I can walk on my own… but you can walk with me…if you want.

He jumped with joy and gladly went beside her…

Oliver: Let’s go…my princess…

As they walk, Nathan watched all that was happening in a corner…

…that afternoon Leslie waited for Nathan at the gate but an hour pass and there was still no sign of him…

Leslie: (if he comes, I’ll give him my sweetest smile…)

And from nowhere Oliver came running towards her, she almost smiled thinking it was Nathan but it disappeared when she saw it was only Oliver…

Oliver: are you going home now...princess?

He said trying to catch his breath.

Leslie: umm…no, actually I’m waiting for someone…

But then she saw Nathan crept up in the corner looking at them…

Leslie: …someone to show up…coz I’ll be angry at him if he doesn’t, I’ll never talk to him again…I’m giving him ten seconds…

Nathan made no movements
Leslie: ten…nine…eight…seven…six…five…

Oliver: who are you talking about? I don’t get it…

Leslie: four…three…two…one………c’mon Oliver, I don’t want to waste my time waiting for someone who’s inconsiderate…

They both left and Nathan just stared at them as they go…

Leslie: (if he runs after us, I’ll forgive him…)

But Nathan turned around and walked on the other way…

The next day, Nathan decided to apologize to her, and he hurriedly went to the canteen where they always meet before class. And when he reached it, there was no Leslie smiling and waiting for him…so he sat to the corner table and looked around…

Nathan: (if she arrives before the bell, I’ll apologize and give her a hug)

But the bell already rang and still no sign of her…so he just went up and when he opened the classroom door he found his best friend sitted on her chair laughing at Oliver’s jokes…

Nathan: (she should be meeting up with me…no wonder she’s busy with her new best friend…)

He sat down on his chair and got his pen and paper, Leslie looked and smiled at him without him noticing…

Leslie: (if he looks back at me, I’ll forgive him and forget what happened…)

But Nathan went on writing and didn’t even try to look at her…she frowned and turned to look at Oliver instead…
When she wasn’t look, Nathan looked at her and wished she would look back…
But their teacher suddenly went in…

At recess, Leslie ate with Oliver and with the others…while Nathan stayed behind and wrote a note for Leslie.

When he was done he placed it in her bag and left to eat…
Classes started again and Leslie caught sight of the folded paper in her bag and read it…

“ Les,

Sorry, could there be any chances that you would forgive me?
Tell me…I’ll do anything…just forgive me…

Sorry…I really am…
Nath ”

She smiled and looked at him, she caught him looking at her and they both dropped their gazed and blushed…
At lunch time all went out except for Leslie, she stayed behind to copy all that was written on the board, after finishing it she stepped outside but Nathan was there waiting for her, they again looked at each other and can’t help but blush…
Leslie looked away and smiled…

Leslie: so…you finally realized you we’re wrong not showing up the other day?

Nathan: yeah, I’m really sorry…what do I need to do? please tell me…

Leslie: okay, let’s just eat our lunch together like before and forget about what happened…

Nathan nodded and offered his hand, she gave hers and they walk hand in hand…

All went well until February, where there will be a ball and all we’re expected to find a date for that night…

Leslie: (if he asked me, I’ll say yes right away…)

*when they were still in grade 1 they made a vow that if neither of them have a date until the day before the ball then they will go as partners…*

And that was still on Nathan’s mind…

Nathan: (please don’t let her find a date…)

He was sitting with her in the canteen reviewing for their history test that afternoon, and he was meaning to ask her to go with him, but he’s in doubt that she might have a date so he dropped the idea…

She was waiting for him to asked her, in fact she had dumped a couple of guys who had asked her, and until the day before the ball, she gave up and finally said yes to Oliver who asked her early that morning…

During class he would look at her and hope that she hasn’t said yes to anyone yet…
At dismissal time he accompanied her to the locker and gathered all his confidence…

Nathan: umm…Leslie…err, do you happen to have a date for tomorrow’s ball?

Leslie looked at him and her smile faded…

Leslie: sorry, Nathan…I’ve already promised Oliver that I’ll go with him…I thought you have a date and so I…

She wasn’t finish talking when he went away…
Nathan’s reaction made her think…what have I done? I should’ve waited for him to ask…

At the ball, Leslie was with Oliver and they look pretty good together, but the smile Leslie used to wear wasn’t there at all,

Leslie: (if he asks me to dance I would say yes…)

But the night was near its end and she still can’t find Nathan…

Leslie: (did he decide not to go tonight?)

The night finally ended…the students all filed out of the hotel and went home…

At their house, Leslie reached for the phone and dialed his best friend’s number…

(Nathan’s mom): Hello?

Leslie: Tita? Can I talk to Nathan?
(Nathan’s mom): sorry hija, but he’s not here, I think he went to your secret hideout…

Leslie: oh…okay, thanks tita…

She didn’t waste time and went to their secret hideout in a tree house near the playground…still in her gown she went up the tree and saw Nathan staring at the dark sky…

Nathan: do you think it will rain?

He said with a pale, cold voice…
She sat down next to him and looked at his teary eyes

Leslie: are you crying?

Nathan: no…my eyes just caught something…

Leslie: umm…why didn’t you…

Nathan: you know why I didn’t asked anyone to the dance?

She looked at him and she felt a little hurt,

Nathan: it’s because I was waiting for the last day…

Leslie: but why would you wait ‘til the last day?

Nathan: coz I was hoping to be your date…so, you forgot our vow?

She felt her knees weaken and her gaze dropped…
She started crying and uttering the word “sorry” between sobs…
He looked at her and handed her his handkerchief,

Nathan: well, can I be your last dance tonight? At least...

She wiped her tears away, looked at him and got to her feet…

Leslie: But how will we dance if there’s no music?

He pulled her close to him,

Nathan: just listen to my heart, and it’s more than a beautiful song…

She rested her head on his chest and they danced as if there was a sweet song playing,

Leslie: (if he hugs me I’ll tell him I love him…)

Nathan: (if she smiles at me then I’ll finally tell her that I love her…)

They swayed and danced…
It was the most wonderful dance she had that night…
It wasn’t his worst night after all…

Nathan stopped and locked her in a tight hug and when he released her she gave him her sweetest smile…

Nathan: best friend, I love you…

Leslie: I love you too, best friend…


They hugged each other, and Leslie even cried…and after all this years he finally kissed her on the cheek….

Oliver?...he found out the next day that he’s been dumped by Leslie, yes, he did cry but he accepted it and just promised to be her best friend no.2!...

And guess what?

They all lived happily ever after….
